Spreading the word in the Workplace

5th February 2024

Foodbanks want nothing more than not to exist. Ultimately, we want everyone to have enough money to be able to afford ALL the essentials: food, hygiene products, baby products, pet food, bills, rent or mortgage.

The current reality is that many people can’t make ends meet, even if they are working. Full time employment does not preclude you from money worries. These days, bills and interest rate rises can swallow your income whether you’re on a low wage or not. Delays in wages, over-reliance on unpredicatble overtime, debt repayments or unexpected household expenses can wipe out the certaintly of having enough money at the end of the month.

Many working people don’t realise they can get help from a foodbank but we would encourage ANYONE who is struggling to afford the essentials to get in touch. Our service is confidential and non-judgemental, and we are also able to put people in touch with other organisations who can help advise on benefits, income maximisation, debt management, bills, arrears etc.

Every foodbank user has access to a financial expert from Money Buddies who is with us on Friday mornings. Their advice is helping lots of our clients, making sure they’re getting all the help they are entitled to.

Some employers are already aware of the financial strain experienced by some employees, but we want to spread the word in workplaces across our district. We have two posters to download that could be shared in your workplace. No one should have the worry of not being able to afford the essentials. We are here to help!
