National Volunteers’ Week

5th June 2020

Wetherby & District Foodbank

National Volunteers’ Week

This week is National Volunteers’ Week across the UK.

The Trustees at Wetherby & District Foodbank would like to take this opportunity to recognise
and thank all its volunteers and supporters for their time, effort and generosity.
Without our volunteers and many supporters we would not be able to do what we do to help
those in food crisis throughout Wetherby and the surrounding District.

Every year is challenging as the demand on foodbanks increases nationally. However, this year is
like no other. The Coronavirus pandemic has contributed to an unprecedented 89%, year on year,
increase in the number of people supported by foodbanks across the UK.
Our own experience at Wetherby & District foodbank follows this national trend.
To meet this demand our volunteers have shown flexibility, compassion and responsibility. As Key
Workers, they continue to work in a challenging COVID-19 environment where social distancing
and hygiene protocols have become part of everyday life.
The foodbank is a rich and cherished asset within our community and the wider region.
To all our volunteers and supporters – WE THANK YOU.
