This year, the Tesco Summer Food Collection, held in partnership with the Trussell Trust and FareShare, will run from 30 June – 2 July. We’re really pleased to be the nominated food charity for the Tesco Extra store at York’s Clifton Moor and will be there for the Summer Collection period with plenty of information on which items we need the most.
This event is a really important one in the calendar of our foodbank. It not only provides us with substantial donations of food, but Tesco also provides a generous financial top-up of funds. In addition to this, the three days also give our volunteers the chance to meet and greet some of the Tesco customers who so generously donate when they shop.
The items donated by shoppers over the three days will make a sizeable contribution to the emergency food parcels we use to support families and individuals who are facing hardship in our wider district.
You may ask why a large supermarket in York is supporting our foodbank based in Wetherby. Well, it’s worth remembering that Wetherby and District Foodbank covers a wide area, stretching from North Leeds, out across to the south of Tadcaster, up towards Boroughbridge and out east to the outskirts of York itself – plus the many villages and rural communities in between. With such a large area to cover, we’re lucky to have the support of supermarkets across the region and in fact, receive a large amount of donations from outside Wetherby itself.
Want to contribute? Just head to the Tesco Extra store at Clifton Moor on the dates above, pick up an item or two from the list of our most needed items, and once purchased, simply hand them to our volunteers or pop them in the collection point.
