URGENT: SUMMER VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

URGENT REQUEST FOR COMMUNITY SUPPORT THIS SUMMER

The summer holidays are one of the most challenging times of the year for foodbanks. Demand for support increases significantly as families lose access to free school meals, while food donations often decrease because many regular donors are away on holiday. As a result, our food stocks are already falling at a time when local families need us most.

To help ensure we can continue supporting people throughout the summer, we have been given the opportunity to hold food drives at two local supermarkets:

• Morrisons, Horsefair, Wetherby – Thursday 9th to Saturday 11th July
• Tesco Clifton Moor – Thursday 16th to Saturday 18th July

These events are vital in helping us collect enough food to support local people during the school holidays.
We are looking for volunteers who can spare just two hours to help at either event. Volunteers will be supported by experienced Foodbank team members throughout and will help with activities such as:

• Welcoming shoppers and providing information about the Foodbank
• Handing out shopping lists and pre-packed donation suggestions
• Supporting our collection points
• Assisting with a tombola stall at Morrisons Wetherby
• Helping with a bag pack on Saturday 11th July at Morrisons Wetherby

Volunteer shifts are:
• 9.30am – 11.30am
• 11.30am – 1.30pm
• 1.30pm – 3.30pm

Ideally, we need around 24 volunteers across each event and currently have only half the number required. If your organisation, community group, Scout or Guide unit, workplace team, family or friends could help with even one shift, it would make a huge difference. Every volunteer helps us collect more food, raise awareness of our Foodbank, and ensure local families have access to essential supplies during the summer holidays.
