Thank You to Our Community!

The recent Food Drives at Morrisons in Wetherby and Tesco Extra at York’s Clifton Moor have played a huge part in ensuring our warehouse shelves are stocked for the coming months.

Every tin, packet or jar donated by customers, every hour of a volunteer’s time spent chatting to customers in store, transporting donations or sorting them at the warehouse has made a difference. Together we collected an amazing:

904.15Kg at Morrisons and 938Kg at Tesco

This is a fantastic achievement and makes a real difference to our ability to provide food and essentials to people who need our support across Wetherby, Tadcaster and all the surrounding villages. Thank you!

We value our local partnerships with Morrisons and Tesco very highly and were delighted when the recent Tesco summer food support campaign enabled us to give something back to our community.

Tesco has introduced a range of initiatives this summer to help support families during the school holidays, including food donation bags, fundraising for charities and free food offers for children. Recently, we have been able to share the benefits of this campaign with our community at Wetherby Market.

Last Thursday we were lucky enough to be given the opportunity to run a stall at Wetherby Market with a tombola, a free Scavenger Hunt for children and 150 pre-packed picnic bags courtesy of the Tesco Extra store at Clifton Moor. We had a fantastic time chatting to local people and seeing local children (and parents!) enjoying a free activity out and about in Wetherby. Each picnic bag contained six food items, including fruit and snack bars. For us, this was a great opportunity to say thank you to local people and to give a little something back to a community who so generously gives to us!

Further picnic bags were provided for families who came along to our Community Picnic the following day on Tetley Field (behind St James’ Church Room). This was a fabulous event with games organised by Louise from Wetherby’s Community Café and Advice Hub. Everyone enjoyed it so much – we’re hosting another one in August!

We will be back at Wetherby Market on Thursday 20th August with another Scavenger Hunt and free picnic bags, with another Community Picnic on Friday 21st August, midday till 1pm, on Tetley Field. Hope to see you there!
